A cactus species commonly referred to as queen of the night, night-blooming cereus, large-flowered cactus, sweet-scented cactus or vanilla cactus. Selenicereus grandiflorus (Latin: large flowered) was first described in 1753 by Carl von Linné; it was the largest flowered species of cacti known at the time. The species is originating from the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti), Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and a few other locations in South and Central America.

This climbing cactus has stems up to 5 metres (16.4 feet) long, and 1 to 2.5 cm (0.4 to 1 inch) in diameter. Its yellowish flowers are between 17 and 22.5 cm (6.7 to 8.9 inch) long and have a vanilla-like smell. They are unique in that they bloom only one night in late spring or early summer and turn white as the hours pass.
