Tilikum
ADDPMP578A captive orca that spent most of its life performing at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida, USA. Tilikum, nickna- med Tilly, was the largest bull orca in captivity, mea- suring 6.9m (22.5ft) long and weighing about 5,700kg (12,500lbs).
Tilikum was captured in Iceland in 1983 at Hafnar- fjörður, near Reykjavík. About a year later, he was transferred to Sealand of the Pacific in Victoria, Briti- sh Columbia before subsequently being transferred in 1992 to SeaWorld.
Tilikum was heavily featured in CNN Films’ 2013 docu- mentary Blackfish, which claims that orcas in captivity suffer psychological damage and become unnaturally aggressive. Tilikum was involved in the deaths of three people: Keltie Byrne – a trainer at the now-defunct Sea- land of the Pacific, Daniel Dukes – a man trespassing in SeaWorld Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando trainer Dawn Brancheau.
