Society for the Preservation of the Quazer Beast
ADDPMP756The Quazer Beast was an alleged mythical creature that was originally said to inhabit the Arctic Ocean. Reports of the creature first appeared in the Wikipedia article space on October 3 2005; like many articles on Wikipedia, it was created by a user with an anonymous IP address. The original article contained valid wiki links and was written coherently. It did not, however, contain any citations of any kind. The next day, another IP added links to relevant lists of mythological creatures on Wikipedia. On November 9 2005, a bot standardised the “see also” section of the article. That same day, another user with an anonymous IP address vandalised the article. This vandalism was reverted almost immediately by an established user.
On May 17 2006, a user of Wikipedia claimed the article contained no references and that Google turned up no hits other than Wikipedia and its mirrors. Consequently, it was speedily deleted and deemed a hoax. However, three weeks later, the Society for the Preservation of the Quazer Beast, dedicated to the protection of the Quazer Beast and similar articles, put the article back online; the Quazer Beast was then moved into the Wikipedia namespace, where it now stands.
